sopranorama!

What (and who? and why??) is SOPRANORAMA! ?

Is it cabaret? a concert? a musical revue? an artsong recital?

Is it an homage to girls’ glee clubs? to pioneering girl groups of the 30’s, like the Boswell Sisters? or cuddly crooners like the Ink Spots?

Is it a showcase for world premieres?

Is it a perverse vehicle for dignified ladies to display their dubious prowess with hula hoops? or their fascination with such neglected gems as Fascination?

The answer is always YES... to everything!

One might even say:  YES-ORAMA!

Janis Hardy and sopranorama vii! Minneapolis Star Tribune, August 10, 2008

Dale Connelly,

of MPR’s

The Morning Show:

“The Diva Stories, the glass-shattering gimmick and the horrible horn-helmeted Wagner-babe stereotype have all contributed to our culture’s irrational fear of sopranos. “With SOPRANORAMA!, Maria, Molly Sue and Janis are creating a more realistic picture of the soprano as that kind, smart and funny friend you would love to have over for dinner or a chat. They are not scary at all, and man, can they sing!”

Michael Anthony, Minneapolis Star Tribune:

“A word of advice concerning a show that shouldn’t be missed: Listen hard!”
